RACE STORY 9 & 10

July 3 and 4, 2010

What a perfect weekend!!!

Man was this a 2 Race Series to remember, lots of new people, some old friends back to visit (and race), and a GREAT series of MOTOS in the OPEN A, the OPEN B, the OPEN C, the 250 B, the 250 C, etc, etc. I think you get the idea!! We were treated to GREAT competition in all of the classes this weekend.

All kinds of firsts this weekend, Matt Stevens got his FIRST win in the Quad College-Boy class, Ian Carpenter started consistently hitting the doubles in the 65cc class, Jamie Burton doing the triple in the five pack (not bad for a Grand-Pa to be over 50), Tate Elliot's first race on his new KTM race bike and last but not least; Treavis Poynter hits the Fly MX Park track for the first time in two years!!

This was our best Open A / Open B combo race ever. Both days we had several A and B riders that really put on a Great Show. Our A class included Billy Burton, Cody Longwell, Treavis Poynter, Josh Davis, and Kody Crum. Our B class included Dustin Lamp, Jamie Burton, Braden Skinner, and Robbie Hutchison. As I mentioned the last race, Billy Burton Has definitely stepped up his speed, he won both days. What can you say about Treavis, he is so enjoyable to watch, it was Great to have him back at the track. These guys also put on a great show in the College Boy class, Billy and Treavis had an excellent battle in the first moto on Saturday, they were back and forth several times before Treavis' conditioning started to show. I don't mean to say he is out of shape, because he was flying. But, Billy seemed to have an extra reserve at the end of each moto. Treavis told me that he hasn't raced much at all in the last couple of years, it sure didn't show, his speed was still excellent! All of these guys in the A class seem to be able to get the hole shot or win on any given day. Having the B class together with the A just added to the excitement. Dustin Lamp is improving with each race, his confidence and speed are evident at each race. It is good to see Braden Skinner back the track, he had an accident and a leg injury (broken bone) that was tough on him. But, he is back and riding very well! I felt bad for Jamie Burton, you could tell he wanted to watch Billy race, but he was riding in the same moto, so he would race a little and slow to spectate a little. On Sunday, Jamie pulled off the track so he could watch the race and rolled over the finish line at the end of the moto. You can tell by watching Jamie, just how proud he is of Billy (and rightfully so). If you missed any of these motos (Saturday or Sunday), you really missed an excellent event!!

The Blake brothers seemed to be trading wins this weekend in the Quad Amateur class, Wiatt came out smoking in the first moto on Saturday and walked away from the pack, then Travis got the win in the second moto and the overall. Then Sunday Wiatt got the overall win. Go figure!

Ricky Crosby disappeared from everybody in the first moto Saturday, but appeared to have bike problems in the second moto. We didn't see him back on Sunday. Brandon Smitely got the wins both days!!

Jorden Boggs was flying this weekend, she got great starts in all of her motos and came away with wins in the Trail Bike 110cc and the Trail Bike Open classes on both days.

Tyler Norris was really flying in the 250cc School Boy class, he got some great holeshots this weekend and finished second both days. Also, he won the 250cc C class on Sunday. Jon Harker put in excellent rides both days for first place in the School Boy Class.

We had a new rider in the 30+ class on Sunday, Alan Bonamo, made a very good showing for himself. He won the class and looked like he had some reserve left.

Frank Kennen once again proved just how consistent a rider he really is, he managed to consume a large quantity of alcohol Saturday night and still rode his same speed on Sunday. Frank never goes really fast, but he also doesn't go really slow, he just GOES!! Frank is one my favorite people at the track, he always seems to have a good time no matter what shape he's in!!

You can tell that Tate Elliot watches the big guys race, because he trys to emulate even the little things. I noticed when he crossed the finish line today that he made a point of removing his goggles as he took the checkered flag!! He looked good out there on his new KTM Race Bike!!

Don't forget, our next race is Sunday, July 18th!! See ya at the races!!
