Race Story 9July 10, 2011
We had a good day today, the
temperature was a little warm but good humidity. The track was
excellent, the National
MX race track owners are missing
the boat by not employing Guy Longwell to take care of their
tracks. He always prepares the track to perfection.
We had a new performer today at the
track, Alyssa Elliot played the "Star Spangled Banner" on
her trumpet before the start of the race. It was an excellent
performance, her band teacher should be proud, not to mention her
parents, family, and friends. I hope she plays again for
us.
Before I get into the story very
far, I have to send kudos to Vince Boggs for his win
today in the 125cc B-C Class. He got the hole shot in both motos
and never looked back (well only a few times). He is the current
points leader in this class and he is second in the standings in
the Open C Class. Congratulations Vince, good ride today!! I should
also mention that Deron Glass gave him a good battle, he finished
second today.
We almost witnessed the one thing that
has never happened at Fly MX Park; Travis Brown appeared to land on
the top of the third jump on the second set of triples in the
six pack on his quad. From my vantage point I couldn't tell if
he cleared a triple or not. But if he didn't it was really close!!
By the way, Travis brown is our Quad Pro and Quad College Boy
leader in the points standings.
Tate Elliot has really stepped up his
speed in the 50cc Race Bike Class. He was really flying today. Tate
is the class leader by a good margin.
Another member of the
Elliot/Skinner/Harker Race Team I was watching today that really
impressed me was Cameron Harker. His riding has gotten so much
smoother over the last few races that I can say he is almost as
smooth as Billy Burton. Cameron is currently third in the standings
in the Open C Class.
It was good to see Craig Hewetson
racing today, he hasn't raced as often as his brother James this
year, but it doesn't show in his speed. He got first in the College
Boy Class and second in the Open B Class behind Braden Skinner.
Good rides Craig!
Hunter Lavy had a couple of good rides
today, he won the 65cc Class and took second in the Mini-Junior
Class, which isn't bad considering the trouble he had in the first
moto. He was dead last off the line in the first moto but ended up
finishing third in that moto.
Hunter Shriner was flying today in the
Mini-Senior Class in fact he spent the last moto continually
pulling away from the pack and finished first by a good margin. He
won that class and took second in the Super-Mini Class.
Cody Vandusen was making his 150
Honda sing today. He was even trying the triple on the five pack.
He was making it but appeared to be on the ragged edge of making
the jump several times until towards the end of the race, he
didn't make it and went down. It took a little bit for him to clear
the cob webs and get moving. But move he did! He not only won the
Super-Mini Class, but also the 125cc School-Boy Class.
One last thing I need to mention
is a family that I don't give much press to, but I
should: the Raber Family. They are one of our favorite
families at Fly MX Park. Dad (Ron) and two sons (Corey
and Colton) all three race. The whole family (Mom included) seems
to really enjoy themselves. They are so pleasant to talk to and
always seem to have smiles on their faces. This is pretty amazing
considering the medical problems Ron has had in the past. I hope
the problems stay in the past and they can all enjoy racing as a
family. Currently all three of the "Raber Racers" are leading the
points standings in their classes. Ron is leading the D Class,
Corey the Vintage Class and Colton the 250cc School-Boy Class.
Also, Mom is a leading Motocross Mom! Congratulations go out to the
entire Raber Family!
If you haven't heard yet, we had some
pretty bad wind damage at the track this past week. We lost our
sign at the road, our sign-up tent is gone, the canopy on Guy's
camper, and several tree tops and branches. We can't seem to
catch a break at the track this year, first the flood that wouldn't
go away (our entry road still hasn't recovered yet), now the wind
damage. Boy am I glad there is no such thing as climate change. The
only good thing was our new announcer's tower and pavilion weren't
damaged.
Well that's it for this race, hope to
see you next weekend, July 23rd and 24th. Don't forget, it is a two
race weekend. Remember we have free camping at the
track.
