Race
18, Season Finale
October 3,
2010
Well the season is over!! The only good thing is that there
is still another race yet this year. Race number 1 of the 2011
season is October 17th. If you would like to get a jump on next
season's point standings, make sure you are here for the next race.
Next year you will only have to race 12 races to get a Championship
Trophy (If you race October 17th this year). I hope I have
made that clear enough, if you aren't sure please ask Guy. As soon
as we get through the next week or two watch for new Race Picture
Pages. I have to finish the one I am on and then I will start a Pro
Race Page and at least one more Picture Page.
If you haven't picked up your Picture Book, they will be
available at the next race.
I don't know if anyone had any idea how close the Quad
Amateur class Championship race was or not. But at the end of
race number 17 two riders were tied for first place; Michael Bragg
and Travis Blake. That meant that the entire season had come down
to the last race to decide the Champion! Both riders rode a great
race in both motos, there was a bit of a battle, but Travis
Blake ended up the clear winner for the day (but only by four
points) and thus is our 2010 Quad Amateur
Champion! Congratulations Travis and Michael!!
We had a new crew of riders today from Pennsylvania; they
called themselves the "Goon Squad". They even made it a point to
tell the girls in the sign up tent their group's name. I
thought about mentioning that during the race announcing, but I
felt a bit reluctant. You see I always believed that goon meant
bully or bad person (somebody that shoves others around, like an
Ice Hockey enforcer) and I felt funny calling a new crew of
riders a bunch of GOONS. I figured, let them ride first and see
what they are like before calling them that. As it turned out; Jake
Welsh, Nick Giovanelli, Ian Starkey, and Hunter Shriner, are all
very good riders with great skills. In fact it looks to me like a
couple of the riders are ready to move up a class (into the A and B
classes). It was good to have you at the track and we hope you will
continue to race with us. But, seriously guys, I would pick a new
name for your group.
Jim Roth wrapped up several Championship Trophies today, he
is the 65cc Class and Mini-Senior Champion and second in the
Mini-Junior Class Championship. Calvin Valentine once again becomes
our Mini-Junior Champion with an excellent effort this year!
Vince Boggs, in his first year of racing, becomes our
Super-Mini Class Champion and gets second in the D Class
Championship. Not only that but he won first place in the D Class
and second place in the Super-Mini Class in the season finale.
Once again, Jacob Visnic shows why he is going to take home
lots of Championship Iron this season. In the second moto of the
Quad 80-110 Class, Jacob had trouble off the line, in fact his quad
must have stalled, because he didn't even get off the line until
the rest of the pack was 1/4 of lap around the track. Jacob got
going and the amazing thing was that he caught and passed the
entire pack before they reached the 1/2 lap mark, talk about
flying!! Jacob is our Champion in the 50cc (7-8) Race Bike Class
and the Quad 50 Class. Plus, he is second place in the Quad
80-110cc Class Championship and third in the 65cc Class
Championship. This is a real "Iron Man", he rode 4 Classes this
season!!
While there is no Championship for Deron Glass this season,
he didn't start the season soon enough, I wanted to mention his
effort and improvement this season. Even though he had a pretty bad
wreck through the six-pack, he came back to finish first in the
Trail Bike 125cc Class and second in the 125cc B-C Class today. I
can see a Championship Trophy in his future!
We were treated to an excellent battle in the 250cc C Class
today, Aerion Weaver and Steven Glendenning swapped places a couple
of times on the way to the finish. Aerion Weaver was victorious and
Steven Glendenning ends up our Season Champ in not only this class,
but also the 250 School-Boy Class. Unfortunately, Aerion didn't
complete enough events to be eligible for a championship, otherwise
he would have been our Open C Champ for sure. I see an excellent
chance of several Championship Trophies in Aerion's future!!
I probably shouldn't mention this, I hope they don't mind. I
found it very ironic that two of the three Weavers that raced today
ended up doing a "Superman" off the start. I don't really mean the
type of Superman you see at an Extreme MX Event either. You see,
both Randy and Aerion contacted someones rear tire with their front
wheel off the start at almost the same exact spot and the end of
the start line straight and ended up over the bars in a flying
position (thus Superman) and I think they both landed on the same
exact spot on the track. I think that pretty much meets the
definition of ironic. Both recovered and went on to excellent rides
and finishes for the day. All of the Weavers, including
Destin, had great seasons!! I hope you will all be back for
next season, I see Championships for all.
I wanted to make sure to mention the Elliot Family, which is
also blended with the Skinner Family and Cameron Harker. These are
the nicest people you'll ever meet on a motorcycle. I always enjoy
the day that much more when they are at the races. It is such
a pleasure to see the support and love they have for their entire crew. They have quite a
contingent at the races "On Any Sunday" at Fly MX Park!! This
is the Elliots first year of racing and their two stars didn't
disappoint, Tate brings home the Championship in the 50cc (4-6)
Trail Bike Class and Alyssa
is the Champion in the Girls Mini-Junior Class. Also, in his first full season back at racing after
a very bad injury (in which he thought he would never return to
racing), Braden Skinner brings home a second place Championship
Trophy in the Open B Class. An
excellent effort considering the conditions he raced
under. Lastly, the other favorite son brings home the Open C
Class Championship: Cameron Harker!! Not too shabby of an
effort for "Team Skinner/Elliot/Harker"!!
I don't know if you noticed, but I did, Ricky Crosby is
really hitting his stride on the track (excuse the horse racing
term) this season. Not only did he win the Quad Junior
Championship, he did it with a Perfect Season. A perfect season is
when you get 13 First Place Finishes or 260 points! In addition to
that, he stepped up to the Quad Amateur Class a few times at the
end of the season and really opened some eyes. If he can do that
well in the Quad Amateur Class on a lesser Quad (300cc), imagine
what he will be able to do on a Big Bore once he gets used to
it.
The Carpenter Duo did very well for themselves in the
Championship standings this season. Eric won the D Class and Ian
came in second in the 65 Class.
The Burton's also impressed this season once again! These
guys, Billy and Jamie, just keep getting faster every season. Jamie
won the 50+ Class and Billy will take home two Firsts in the Open A
and the College Boy Classes! Their skills and finesse improved
considerably during the year. Jamie started doing one of the
triples and Billy has become one of the smoothest riders at Fly MX
Park!!
Several other Quad riders did great this season, many
continued their winning ways from previous seasons and others won
or got a second or third place Championship Trophy for the first
time. There are a lot to mention; Nathan Stevens, Repeating Quad
Pro Champion; Wiatt Blake, third place in the Quad Amateur Class
and Champion of the Quad College Boy Class; Brandon Smitley, 2nd
place in the Quad Junior Class and Champion of the Quad 80-110cc
Class; Garrett Watson, third place in the Quad 80-110cc Class;
Michael Myers, second place in the Quad 50cc Class; Taylor Bowers,
Quad Women Champion; and last but not least, Matt Stevens, second
place in the Quad College Boy Class Championship in his very first
year of racing!! Congratulations to all!!
There are several other bike riders that need mentioning at
the seasons end. Wyatt Abele got the Championship in the 50cc (4-6)
Race Bike Class; Chase Brown, second place in the 250cc School Boy
Class and 4th in the 250cc C Class; Colton Raber, third place in
the 250cc C Class; Jordan Boggs, Champion of the Trail Bike 110cc
Class; Ben Greene, Champion of the Trail Bike 125cc Class; Gavin
Shaver, 2nd place in the 250cc C Class; and definitely last but not
least, once again, Dustin Lamp, Champion of the Open B Class!
Congratulations to all!!
Finally, now to the Longwells, Cody comes away with second
place in the Open A Class and Champion of the 25+ A Class and
spends every race entertaining the fans at Fly MX Park. What
can you say about Guy, he works his ass off all season every
weekend and even through the week to provide a "Great Track" for
everyone to enjoy, works long hours at Hometown Honda to make sure
everyone has their correct parts and accessories, and still finds
time to become the 40+ Champion and take second in the 50+ Class!!
I don't know how he does it, I am usually wore out just watching
him. If you get the chance, make sure you tell Guy if you enjoyed
yourselves this season! I am sure he would appreciate it.
The Season is Over, but there is still one race left this
year! Hope to see you Sunday, October 17th, for Race number 1 of
the 2011 season! Don't forget to hang around at the end of the day
to cheer for the 2010 Champs!
