We had a Great Day for Motocross at Fly MX Park. The day
started out really nice, it was overcast and cool in the morning.
Guy put a bunch of wood chips on the track and it held the moisture
exceptionally well. He had to water a little in the morning on the
jumps and the staring line and then again at intermission since we
didn't get any rain. It got a little warm in the afternoon when the
sun came out, but it was still nice. Guy also got his new tines
installed on the tiller and boy did that make a difference in the
condition of the track. The track was perfectly groomed, those that
missed the race missed an excellent track!!
Just for Steve and Dan's benefit, I thought I would pass
on their new staring line rule that they developed at this last
race. After spending considerable time digging all of the dirt out
of the start gate, they have decided there must be a new starting
rule to keep the dirt from collecting in the gate. Their idea is
you stand beside your bike on the starting (with the bike off);
when the gate drops, you shove the bike out the start straight 15
feet then you jump on, start the bike, and GO!!! They are pretty
sure 15 feet will be sufficient so that no dirt should reach the
start gate pit!! I am not so sure that this new rule will catch on,
but I thought I would mention it. It seemed to me that there was
some considerable thought put into this idea!!!
We had several new riders at the track again this weekend, but
one really stands out in my mind, Nathan DeLozier. He rode a CRF
150R BW in the 125cc SchoolBoy and the Super Mini classes and
completely dominated the track. In the School Boy class, we
combined the 125cc and the 250cc classes and he beat everyone on
his 150. But that wasn't the most amazing thing, he did something I
have never seen anyone do before at Fly MX Park. He was
consistently doing the "TRIPLE" in the Five Pack on his 150 Honda.
I have seen several 450's and a few 250's do it (including Andrew
Arnold, who was doing the same Triple on his CRF 250 during todays
race). But, I have never seen a 150cc bike do any triple at Fly
MX!!
As I predicted, Braden Skinner continues to get faster!! He
was looking even better at this race then the last, in fact he was
challenging Dustin Lamp for the lead. He passed Dustin and led the
Open B class for awhile before Dustin kicked it another notch and
got by for the win!! Andrew Arnold rode the Open class on his 250
and ended up second overall for the day!!
Andrew Arnold was flying today in the 250 B class. If there
was a movie that would describe his riding style today, it would
have to be an old Clint Eastwood one titled "Every Which Way But
Loose". He rode like he was right on the edge of control all day.
Andrew, "smooth" sometimes works well! The Parsons brothers were
back at the track today, good to see them again. Dalton got the win
and Dillon got second!
Brandon Smitley made his motorcycle racing debut today in the
Mini Senior class today. He normally rides quads, but he decided to
try a bike class. He looked pretty good today, he needs a little
work, but it will come. Calvin Valentine won this class today, but
the two riders that need highlighted are Jim Roth and Colby Brode.
Both of these riders have definitely improved this season. Their
control and speed were great, they both look like they will be
giving Calvin Valentine something to think about in this class.
If you haven't noticed we have reached race 13, that means the
Championship standings are now available at the bottom of the
Points Standings page. There aren't a lot of riders listed yet, but
there are 46 that are eligible to get 13 races in this season. If
you aren't sure if you qualify, check at the next race, we can help
you then. Some of you have to ride all of the remaining races to
qualify.
Don't forget, our next event is a two race weekend, come and
camp with us for the weekend!! Also, Sunday is our Pro-Race, with
the $1,000. purse (bikes only). It should be a good
weekend!!
See you soon!!
