Boy, did we get a BUNCH of rain! My rain gauge said 3-3/4" by
Sunday evening. But, you know what, we still raced!! AND, we had
a GREAT time!! The track was still very rideable!! Motocross
is NOT a fair weather sport!! As far as that goes, most forms of
dirt motorcycle/ATV racing are still ran in the rain. We are kind
of like the US Postman "Neither Rain, nor snow, nor
sleet, nor dark of night will keep us from racing" well it goes
something like that. There were a few brave souls that raced
with us and did very well. We did modify our format for the day,
the large quads decided they wanted to race one 12 lap moto and
just about everyone else rode one 8 lap moto. We still paid the
full points for a regular day of racing, so the few that did race
got a bit of a "jump" on everyone that chose not to
race.
We had an injured rider (from last season) return to the track
today. Calvin Valentine came back with a vengeance, man was he
flying in the Mini-Junior class. Unfortunately, he was the
only rider, but he really looked good out there, no wrecks, and he
was putting in some very good lap times. He looks like he is ready
to compete for the title! Also, I wanted to mention how good Jim
Roth looked out there today in the mud in the 65cc and the
Mini-Senior classes.
Another rider that really impressed me today was Steven
Glendenning, he actually looked faster in the mud then I have ever
seen him ride!! Not only did he win the 125cc School Boy and
the 250cc School Boy classes, but, he also won the 250cc C class
today. The two wins in the School Boy classes puts him into the
series points lead in those two and second place in the 250cc
C class. Great rides today, Steven!!
Jessica Good and Nicole Hays were both riding very well in the
mud today. These two should be role models for the riders that
chose not to ride because it was muddy! These two young ladies put
on a mud riding clinic!
Our D Class was a little thin today, but two riders that are
serious about a championship trophy rode today, Nathan Winkelmes
and Vince Boggs both looked great out there in the mud. They also
happen to be our number 1 and number 2 series points leaders.
There were quad riders all over the track today and
there were all sorts of riding styles, sideways, backwards,
circles, etc. The Quad Amateurs were real gluttons for punishment,
they chose to ride one 12 lap moto. Talk about having your tongue
hang out at the end, that is an extremely long time to try to
race a moto in the mud. Michael Bragg, Wiatt Blake and Matt Stevens
kept 'em moving forward all the way till the end. My hat is off to
them (if I wore a hat)!! The rest of the quad classes all ran
today including "Big Bad Michael Myers" in the Quad 50cc Class.
There were also two young ladies in the quad ranks that rode in the
mud and looked great: Taylor Bowers and Hannah Bever)!
The were a number of other riders that rode today and they all
looked like they were having fun. But, I have to say, there was
probably not another rider that had has much fun as Andrew Arnold.
Every lap he came around the big sweeper, you could see him getting
set up to cover everyone with mud that was standing on the outside
of the turn. He looked like a "blender without the lid" on every
lap!!
I hope everyone had as good of a time as I did. There were
times I had absolutely no idea what was going on in some of the
motos. The riders were so covered with mud I couldn't even see the
color of the bike or the riders face, let alone their race number.
So, announcing was kind of a crap shoot, I hope I didn't get too
many riders names wrong.
Until next time, make sure you let our sponsors know how much
you appreciate the fact that they support Fly MX Park! After all,
if it weren't for them we wouldn't have anywhere near the amount of
nice awards and prizes to give out.
